A new crop added to CRIN mandate

The number of crops in CRIN mandate increased with the recent addition of a new crop to the kitty. This information emerged as the Agricultural Research council of Nigeria (ARCN) recently furnished CRIN management with the news. This new crop, Vitex doniana, commonly known as Black Plum is also locally known as ‘Dinyar’ in Hausa, ‘Galbihi’ in Fulani, ‘Ori nla’ in Yoruba, and ‘Ucha koro’ in Ibo. The fruits are generally referred to as black-plum or African olive.

With the current development, CRIN scientists have been mandated to hit the ground running to provide the necessary search and embark on the search and research activities on this new crop in its kitty, which is believed to have enormous economic potential.
