Capacity Development
- The Training Department has recorded 75% PhD holders amongst CRIN scientists.
- The department has recorded quite a number of CRIN scientists who have been granted NUFFIC scholarship to Wageningen.
- A large number of staff members have been sent for training in and out of the Institute, both at local and international levels in which no cadre or department was left out, which had never happened before in the history of Training Department in the Institute.
- The training department organized an In-house performance enhancement workshop for all Heads of Substations, Agricultural Technologists and Executive Officers at all CRIN substations to sensitize them about Administrative Ethics in the Research Institute, which was first of its kind in the history of the training department.
- An in-house training was organized for all Research Officers and senior Agricultural Technologists.
- Two hundred and twenty-one (221) students from various institutions in Nigeria were approved to undergo their students industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) in the Institute.
- All categories of staff are given opportunity to train in areas relevant to their responsibilities and duties in the Institute.
- Staff are regularly and well trained to improve and strengthen their skills for optimal performance, irrespective of cadre or discipline.
- Forty percent of staff have attended training both at national and international levels.
- Up to sixty research officers are on their MSc and PhD training.
- All Research Officers are granted approval to go for postgraduate courses on self-sponsorship enjoying two (2) days off duty per week.
- Approvals are given to scientists to attend short duration courses, as Conferences/Workshops/Seminars/ Fellowships with financial support from the Institute.
- Continuous approval of students from various institutions for their Student's Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
- At most, 10 Corps members are always engaged every year for their national service in the Institute.
- Farmers and other stakeholders are trained regularly on crop husbandry and value addition of CRIN mandate crops.
