IACO Visits CRIN

The International Coffee Organisation (IACO) paid a courtesy visit to the Institute on November 25, 2022. The delegation ably led by Dr. Celestin M. Gatarayiha, Director of Research and Development, IACO, who came in the company of Mrs Grace Nwankwo also of IACO, Abdijan, met with the coffee scientists of the Institute as well as some members of the Management Staff at the Board Room of the Lawrence Opeke Conference Hall. In his address, Dr. Gatarayiha harped on Nigeria’s indebtedness of IACO to the tune of 90,000 Euro, hence denying the country from membership benefits such as sponsorship of scientists to scientific conferences. He specifically highlighted the Export-Import Bank located in Egypt and other member’s countries, such as Kenya has been enjoying funding from the Bank. He also commented on structuring of demand-driven proposal and participatory research. On issue of development of coffee genetic material, he suggested exchange of the material among member countries of IACO. He equally encouraged local consumption of coffee among IACO member countries. The ED CRIN, Dr. Patrick Adebola, was represented by Dr. A.O. Famaye, Director and Head of Farming Systems Research.
