Oversight Visit of House of Representatives Members to ARCN

In what is regarded as one of her statutory functions, the House Committee on Agriculture, Colleges and Institutions paid a scheduled visit to the Council on November 2, 2021 to conduct an over sight exercise. Kayode I. Aiyedogbon, Head, Protocol and Publicity at the Council, reported that the Committee was led by its Chairman, Hon. Munir Babba Dan’agundi, who remarked on the ARCN amended bill 2021, which according to him, is geared towards making progress in the agricultural research sector. He further noted that he is aware of the progress being made by other countries of the World which was benchmarked and adopted by Nigeria in order to bring about a lot of changes that will endure the test of time. Hon. Dan’agundi, however, assured that some of the changes that would be seen will be beneficial to the Country and the World at large. In his welcome speech, the ES of ARCN, Prof. Garba Hamidu Sharubutu mni, reeled out some of the recent activities of the Council as follows: Passage of amended bill; Distribution of extension teaching materials under AROC project; Improved Coordination; Establishment of ARCN Museum, Radio/TV and e-library; and Provision of CARGS Grants amongst others. The ES also mentioned the advantages of the new bill to include but not limited to the following: Laws establishing the FCAs and the new one; The possibility of equal distribution of staff across all NARIs and FCAs; Power to set up spin-off companies; Establishment of a single Council Governing Board; and Appointment of CEOs of NARIs and FCAs and amongst others. At the end of the briefing, the House members were conducted round the new Council building to inspect all the newly installed facilities.
